FLYING FASCINATION
Flying is simply fascinating. This fascination lives through pictures made from those
magnificent machines that enable people to fly. Shots out of the cockpit will be a
remembrance of great flights. (mouseclick to one of the minis and take a look at the big
JPEG-versions).
There is a
new top model in Robin's DR line. The DR500 Président comes with a 200 hp Lycoming and a
cockpit which offers more room. In comparison with the DR400 Regent the Président will be
faster.
With
new materials and new technologies to new horizons: A big open class glider with a span of
more than 30 m is growing in Braunschweig, Germany. The project is financed by small
group of glider enthusiasts. It is called eta, like the greek letter, in physics the term
for efficiency. Development and construction is on time, and there is a good chance
that eta can participate in the next World Gliding Championships in Bayreuth, Germany (details).
The well-known
ultralight FK9 is now flying also in a plastic-reinforced version (Mark 3). The
differences between FK9 Mark II and its new sister model are listed in aerokurier 1/98.
Zenair's CH2000 is
heading for Europe. The very light aircraft (VLA) is an all-metal construction which
resembles very much to an older Robin model. People familiar with these types of aircraft
wouldn't be surprised. In former times, designer Chris Heintz, now a Canadian resident,
was member of the Robin design team in France.
